Mechanical ventilation systems for enclosed parkades either run continuously or are controlled by a single or array of gas detection system. Each CO Sensor or detection system covers a set distance. These gas detection systems use sensors to detect the buildup of carbon monoxide, a colourless and odourless gas, and activate fans and alarms when readings reach pre-programmed set points. Each sensor is specific and calibrated for detecting a certain compound. The sensors require annual testing and calibration to ensure proper operation and prevent safety hazards. Depending on the type of sensors, they will eventually fail and will require replacement.
