mr natural® environmental group can provide LEED qualification testing for 4-Phenylcyclohexene

What is 4-Phenylcyclohexene?

4-Phenylcyclohexene or 4-PCH is a by-product formed during the polymerization process of styrene-butadiene latex that is used in carpet backing. Reports suggest that exposure to very low levels of 4-PCH or other emission products following new carpet installation may result in health complaints.

mr natural® provides a complete range of air testing services related to LEED compliance and qualifications.

Testing 4-Phenylcyclohexene

For LEED compliance, the qualify test duration must include a minimum of four hours of sampling. Less than four hours of sampling time will render the test invalid according to certification documentation LEED 2009.

Sampling Methods for 4-PCH

  • Charcoal tube for OSHA 7, with flow rates between 0.01 and 0.2 lmp allowing for a maximum sampling time of 17 hours. The tube is analysed by GC/FID with a reporting limit of 3 µg.
  • Carbotrap for EPA TO-17 is the preferred method for LEED sampling. It allows for flow rates of 0.01 to o.05 lmp with a maximum sampling time of 10 hours. Requirements for LEED are 4 hours. The media is analysed by GC/MS with a reporting limit of 50 ng. This method requires a minimum of two days notice to prepare the media.
